G. Paulis (19th century): Portrait of a young man in a suit with glasses and moustache Gerhard Hartmann Carte de Visite, c. 1887, CDV
Technique: CDV on Cardboard
Date: c. 1887
Size: Cardboard: 10,3 cm x 6,5 cm (4,1 x 2,6 in)
Description: Inscribed below with the address of the photo studio: "G. Paulis Heidelberg". Handwritten inscription on the reverse: By Gerhard Hartmann for Ferdinand Blum. The photograph comes from the business card collection of Ferdinand Blum (1865 - 1959), who was director of the Biological Institute in Frankfurt am Main. He researched physiology and endocrinology, especially of the adrenal glands, the pancreas and the thyroid gland. He discovered the blood sugar-increasing effect of adrenalin. In 1939 he fled to Switzerland.
