Description: Engraving by F. Bonneville, with text page printed on both sides from Bonneville's "Portr. des personnages célèbres de la Révolution", signed and inscribed: "F. Bonneville del. S. B. Compagnie sculp. J. B. Boyer-Fonfrede. Né à Bordeaux le 5. xbre 1760. Député du dépt. de la Gironde à la Con Nat. décapité le 10 Brumaire 31 8bre lán 2 de la Rép. A Paris Rue St. Jacques N° 195." Very fine portrait of J. B. Boyer-Fonfrede in half profile with black skirt and white neckerchief. François Bonneville (first mention 1796, last mention 1802) was a portrait painter, engraver, etcher and publisher. Bonneville became known for his four-volume work "Portr. des personnages célèbres de la Révolution" with annotations by P. Quenard. The work contains 200 portraits (copper engravings and etchings) after his own drawings, some of which he engraved himself. Portr. des personnages célèbres de la Révolution is of great contemporary historical importance, as it contains the only authentic portraits of many personalities of the revolutionary period. Jean-Baptiste Boyer-Fonfrède (1766, Bordeaux - 1793) belonged to the Girondists and supported the execution of Louis XVI.

Good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet is foxed and discoloured in the margins; paper in the upper right area of the printing plate with a box pleat; the image is slightly wavy in the lower half and rubbed in places.Condition
