Size: Paper: 23,6 cm x 31,0 cm (9,3 x 12,2 in), Depiction: 16,0 cm x 18,5 cm (6,3 x 7,3 in)
Description: Without designation. Street scene with two children and a woman holding one of the children's hands while he tries to walk. A small black dog runs barking in front of him, while another child shyly watches the scene. Born in 1872 as the son of a preacher's family with many children, Daniel GREINER attended the sculpture school in Berlin and Paris after studying philosophy. From 1903 to 1906 he was a member of the Darmstadt artists' colony, after which he set up his own workshop in Jugenheim. GREINER worked as a sculptor, medallist, graphic artist and writer. His best-known work is probably the "Greiner Bible", which takes up themes from the Old and New Testaments in 147 woodcuts.
