Payne framed the bust of David with roots, branches and palms, animals and musical instruments additionally decorate the frame. Below this he laid out an artistic landscape. Serious and unmoved by the storm scene, Felicien David looks at the viewer. His thick, dark curls are combed back on the top of his head and hang loosely down to his ears on the sides. Despite his beard, David appears very young. He is carefully dressed, wearing a bow tie with a white shirt, waistcoat and jacket.Felicien David (1810 - 1876) was a French composer.
