Dearest Alice,
I am writing you this short note to ask if it would be possible for you to come down here for the Bachelor's Ball which is being given in Wilmington on Wednesday evening November 24. Everyone will be there and I think it would be swell fun.
All the family are hoping you can make it and especially me, please.
Love, Andy
COULD YOU LET ME KNOW SOON
Wednesday, November 17, 1937 ; mailed Thursday, November 18, 1937 [from Carolyn Wyeth]
Dear Alice,
Since I last saw you Alice, I have tried to do some honest goodness painting. The last one I did around Chadd's Ford, has in spots, some fair painting, any how, I learned something by it, but since I have been painting in my studio I haven't done anything worth even mentioning. I feel that landscape is my field. I love working out in the air, everything about it is so darn stimulating to me.
Now Alice you really must try and come down for the dance if you can, it should be fun, and too, it will be swell to see you again, do make a big try and come, won't you.
After Andy comes back from S.C. we both are coming to New York, that will be the middle of December.
I am myself coming up to make another attack on a gallery with my hand painted art works, and we must get together then.
I am, I hope, back to earth again, after Andy's great success in New York. God! Wasn't it exciting though, but damn it, his water colors are something, they absolutely couldn't pass them by.
Again, do try and come down.
Love,
Carolyn

My Dearest,
I am so very very glad that you can make it. I am wearing full dress but of course you don't have to wear a thing - don't get me wrong.
Carolyn said to tell you to wear something with a low back. What the hell is that anyway, please tell me sometime will you.
Am counting the minutes till Wednesday at 6.50 or 8.22.
Excuse me if I'm nuts it's all because you are coming.
Love,
Andy
