Provenance: Mathilde Q. Beckmann; sold by The Alpha Gallery, Boston to Mr. Alford P. Rudnick in 1968; by descent to his son; to a Boston Collector.
Exhibitions: Max Beckmann: The World as a Stage. Kunsthalle Bremen, 30 September 2017 - 4 February 2018, and Museum Barberini, Potsdam, 24 February - 10 June, 2018.
This lot is accompanied by a copy of the exhibition catalogue.

This cast, as all casts of this sculpture, was commissioned by Mathilde Q. Beckman after the death of Max Beckmann. There is no cast done during Max Beckmann's lifetime, as he died only shortly after he had finished the work. This cast will have the number 2 in a future Catalogue Raisonne." - Shipping Info
