THE FREDERICK BILLINGS
oil on canvas
36 x 60 in., frame: 45 x 69 in.
Provenance: Quester Gallery, Connecticut (label verso); Property of a Duxbury, Massachusetts collector.
Other Notes: The Frederick Billings was a four masted wooden ship built in 1885 by Carleton, Norwood & Co., Rockport, Maine. The first master of the ship was Captain Isaac W Sherman from Camden, Maine and the ship was intended for the San Francisco trade. It burned "to the waterline" in the Caleta Buena harbor in 1893. Lot 264 in this sale, a shadowbox ship diaorama, depicts the Frederick Billings as well.
