- Lot Description
This is a heavy glass perfume flacon with a sterling silver stopper by Georg Jensen Inc, this piece is made in the U.S.A.. There is a glass dipper set into the stopper.
Measures 5½” (14cm) in height to the top of the stopper.
Hallmarks: “GEORG JENSEN INC. U.S.A. STERLING”.
During the Second World War Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany and Europe was under a naval blockade by the Allies. This meant that Georg Jensen Inc. in USA could not get supplies for their stores. The entrepreneurial CEO of Georg Jensen Inc., Frederik Lunning, found two American designers to design silver in the style of Georg Jensen and began producing silver and jewelry. These pieces were hallmarked “Georg Jensen Inc.” and/or “Georg Jensen U.S.A.”. Production continued until the early 1950s, when Georg Jensen silversmithy resumed supplying the stores in the U.S.A..
