Please note this auction is for the large Tureen and ladle only. A very heavy (5,2 kilograms) and important sterling silver Georg Jensen oval tureen on four scroll feet in the Art Nouveau style, with the characteristic decorative ornaments of flora and fauna. The tureen is decorated with leaf and berry handles and the top of the domed cover is decorated with flowers and berry details. Included is a large matching sterling silver ladle, design #17 also by Georg Jensen, please see the extra images.
Tureen #299B is designed around the end of WW1 (circa 1919) – a very rich period where an unprecedented abundance of money circulated, trade flourished everywhere and the Silversmithy had a record turnover. During these years Georg Jensen created more richly decorated silver pieces than normally seen from his side.
The surface of the tureen has the characteristic hammer marks, which was one of the trademarks of Georg Jensen design.
