This year has been quite remarkable for us all. Each day we come together masked, which limits our ability to fully experience facial expressions and take in the joy and laughter that comes from our daily interactions with each other. We miss your children's unveiled faces. We saw this as an opportunity to make a group art piece free of masks, in an effort to capture the spirit of a traditional class portrait.
Every child was provided with a three-piece template created directly from their individual photographs. These included their hair, face and clothing. Each piece was painted separately. Carefully blended paint was provided according to each child's hair color and skin tone clearly displaying our diversity. The three painted parts were then collaged together. Patterns and prints on their clothing were achieved through the use of painter's tape and additional collaging. Stencils were provided to add facial features as a finishing touch. Upon drying the portraits were assembled together resulting in this lively collaboration.
