- Lot Description
A Silver and Enamel Table Ornament, Attributed to Simon Grunwald, 19th Century.
Having Viennese control mark ca. 1866-1872. Decorated with enameled allegorical scenes and landscapes, with silver figural center of cherub riding a winged Hippocamp.
H: 6 5/8 W: 7 3/4 D: 6 in.
The Hippocamp has the head and forelegs of a horse, tail and forefins of a fish, and the wings of a bird. In myth, the winged Pegasus was the son of the sea-god Poseidon, and the fish-tailed Hippocampi were his aquatic steeds.Condition
Multiple campaigns of restoration to object. All lots have imperfections or the effects of aging. Gray's Auctioneers shall have no responsibility for any errors or omissions.
