- Lot Description
Autograph letter signed by Robert E. Lee (1807-1870) to Miss A.F. Caldwell. Lexington, Virginia, 6 August 1866. 1 page, 4to.
Writing to an admirer in the year after his surrender: "In reply to your letter...I regret to have to state that I have nothing to send you, worthy of your acceptance; but that your prayers + kind wishes will be always appreciated." Signed boldly by the Confederate commander.
A nice post-war Lee letter.
