- Lot Description
M1860 officer's sword. Boston, Massachusetts: George F. Harding, ca 1900. Ricasso etched "Geo. F. / Harding / Boston. Mass." Blade 30 1/4 in. Overall 36 1/2 in.
An example of an m1860 officer's sword manufactured by George F. Harding who founded the Harding Uniform & Regalia Co. of Boston circa 1900. This style of sword was popular with fraternal organizations as well as the Grand Army of the Republic.
The sword has an un-etched blade with an etched mark to the ricasso. The case brass handle and guard have a pleasant, aged look. The kidney-shaped counter guard is cast with an Eagle & Banners motif. The scabbard has brass mounts.
