An elegant oil on canvas measuring 33.5 x 46 cm, signed lower right by Jean Louis Marcel Cosson, Post-Impressionist painter known for his captivating depictions of Parisian life. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, this piece focuses on the sophisticated ambiance of the Subscribers' LoungeÑan exclusive setting often associated with the world of ballet and opera. Born in Bordeaux in 1878, Cosson was drawn to themes of dance, theater, and the feminine figure. His scenes of the OpŽra's foyer, bustling with ballerinas and patrons, became particularly prized among collectors. He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes FranaisÑlater becoming a memberÑthen participated in the SociŽtŽ Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon des Tuileries. Throughout his career, he also explored genre scenes, interiors, and floral compositions in oil, gouache, and watercolor. Cosson died in Paris in 1956, leaving behind a legacy of elegant glimpses into the fashionable and artistic life of early 20th-century France.
