An elegant oil on panel by Post-Impressionist painter Jean Louis Marcel Cosson, measuring 46 x 55 cm and signed lower right. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, this scene of a leisurely outdoor lunch highlights Cosson's refined approach to genre painting and his fascination with moments of conviviality. Born in Bordeaux in 1878, Cosson became known for his depictions of ballet, opera, and Parisian life, often focusing on the grace and charm of feminine figures. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes FranaisÑeventually becoming a memberÑand later at the SociŽtŽ Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon des Tuileries. His works portraying the Foyer de l'OpŽra and its ballerinas remain particularly beloved by collectors, but he also embraced a variety of subject matter, including lively outdoor gatherings such as this Lunch in the Countryside.
