John Marin's "Gestural Abstract" - an oil on canvas masterpiece measuring 18" x 25 5/8" and elegantly framed at 23 7/8" x 31 3/4". This striking artwork depicts a captivating Maine island and rocky coastline, bearing the artist's signature and the date 1949. Notably, the painting's history is intertwined with Alfred Stieglitz's renowned "An American Place Gallery" in NYC, adding to its historical significance. Originally acquired by your late father from a NYC collector, this piece has earned the reputation of being of "museum quality." It was once part of the esteemed collection of art collector Clifford Brynildson, father of Erik Brynildson, and is now housed at the nonprofit national historic Museum dedicated to Clifford Brynildson at Fountain Lake Farm, a location with historical ties to John Muir, the famous Scottish-American naturalist and environmental philosopher. Erik, the curator and custodian of this exceptional artwork, continues to share its beauty and significance with the world.
