Bearing an exhibition label on the reverse, this work measures 23.62 x 29.52 inches and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Born Alphonsine Marie Antoinette Clementine Leroi in 1879, ClŽmentine Ballot hailed from the Creuse region of France. Encouraged by her husband, she settled there for much of her life, befriending fellow artists such as Eugene Alluaud, Anders Osterlind, Mania Mavro, Georges-Hanna Sabbagh, Alfred Smith, Francis Picabia, Paul Madeline, Armand Point, and Armand Guillaumin. Her travels and painting expeditions took her across Creuse, Brittany, the Lot and Dordogne, the Balearic Islands, and the South of France. Exhibiting in Parisian salons from 1923 onwardÑat venues like Galerie Georges Petit and, later, Bernheim JeuneÑBallot became known for her Impressionist-influenced style and her keen sensitivity to light and color. The soothing, delicate quality of her landscapes continues to captivate, earning her a place in numerous museum collections, including those in Ajaccio, Limoges, Montauban, Paris, and beyond.
