The arched cornice lushly carved with with fruit and floral swags above descending mirror back shelves flanking a realistically carved game bird above a thick marble server, foliate carved rounded drawers and cabinets. 98in. (248cm) h; 24in. (61cm) w; 82in. (208cm) l
This style of "Hunt" sideboard became popular in the 1850's after a lavishly carved example depicting a stag hunt was exhibited at the World's Fair in Paris, 1850 and also at the Centennial Fair in Philadelphia 1876. All are adorned with high relief carving of game birds, hares, stags, and garlands of fruit and flowers. The public was so thrilled with these examples that many furniture makers began carving "Hunt" sideboards..
