- Lot Description
The oval bowl with gilt rim and base from the Coronation Service of Alexander III. Each side decorated with the insignia of the Romanov's, a wing spread double head eagle with breastplate of St. George slaying the dragon. The base underglaze hallmark 'AIII' surmounted by a crown.

Condition: One small chip to rim
Accompanied by a letter of authenticity; The Schaffer Collection of Russian Imperial Art Treasures, dated September 14, 1934.
Alexander S. Schaffer, president of A La Vieille Russie, New York, made many trips to Russia in the 1920's and 30's collecting Russian Imperial Treasures that the Soviet administration wanted to divest in support of their programs.
