- Lot Description
Attributed to Francois Eisen (Flemish, c. 1685-1778). Children with Mousetrap. Oil on panel. Measures 11.5 in. high x 8.5 in. wide (with frame 15 in. high x 12.25 in. wide).
Condition: In very good condition. Heavy and opaque varnish layer making it difficult to read under UV light however there appears to be a few tiny touches of inpaint along the right and lower edges possibly to address frame abrasion. Craquelure and surface soiling.
Born in Brussels at the end of the 17th century, Francois Eisen moved to Valenciennes in Northern France at the age of twenty. It was in Northern France that he completed numerous commissions for churches and monasteries. He was known for painting and engraving genre and historical subjects. He moved to Paris in 1775 where he remained until his death.
