Da Quang Em studied at Gia Dinh College of Fine Art. Along with contemporary fine artists he rebelled against the formal style of the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Indochine, and the dogmatic socialist tradition of Vietnamese art. He was consequently sent to a 're-education' camp.
Do Quang Em presents portraits and still life paintings with hyper realism as in a photo under light that reveals every detail.
