BID ON THE-SALEROOM
MELLERIO - a late 19th century diamond and ruby brooch. The central panel depicting Saint James Matamoros and inscription of the apostle's hymn 'Defensor Alme Hispaniae', with circular-shape ruby highlights, to the rose-cut diamond foliate sides. Signed Mellerio. Length 4.7cms. Weight 19.1gms.
Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age. Diamonds fairly bright. Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation. Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Rubies medium pinkish-red, well saturated, with fair clarity and typical inclusions. Stones in fair condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges.
