An early twentieth century silver pot pourri basket, the faceted, spreading form with a formalised leaf border around the base, having a reeded upright handle and a removable pierced lid with floral embossed finial. Hallmarked George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, Chester 1911, the lid struck with Birmingham date letter for 1911 and the lion passant. Maximum height to handle measures 4 3/4 inches (12 cm), weight 4.11 ozt (128 cm).
The basket appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general wear, surface scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with the age and use. A couple of slight knocks around the foot rim, also to handle and lid. The lid appears to be a good fit although likely assayed in Birmingham rather than Chester. The hallmarks are clear and legible, slight rubbing to maker's mark.
