An early twentieth century silver mounted claret jug, the tapering glass body etched with floral swags and butterflies and rising to a plain silver collar with line borders and a hinged lid with shaped and stepped rim. Hallmarked Atkin Brothers, Sheffield 1916. Maximum height to handle measures 9 7/8 inches (25 cm).
The jug displays some general wear, surface scratches and marks and some tarnishing to the silver mounts, all in keeping with the age and use. Some heavier contact marks and abrasions to some areas of the glass and especially to the base. The hinged lid appears in good working order. The hallmarks are clear and legible, slight rubbing to maker's mark. Clear part hallmarks to lid.
