A pair of mid-twentieth century silver candlesticks, each with a stepped square base having beaded borders, rising to a plain tapering stem and a Corinthian style capital with further bead detail to the nozzle, personal engravings to the bases. Hallmarked Alexander Smith, Birmingham 1954. Height measures 12 1/4 inches (31 cm) gross weight 27.17 ozt (845 grams).
Both candlesticks display some noticeable wear including numerous surface scratches, nicks and contact marks, also some tarnishing. Heavier wear to edges and corners. Some small dints and bumps to both. One candlestick appears to have a repair around the top of the stem, just below the capital and knop. The other candlestick displays some creases in the same area. This same candlestick also wobbles when in the standing position. Both nozzles appear jammed in position. The hallmarks are clear and legible, one of the maker's marks is a little worn.
