A mother-of-pearl, synthetic ruby and emerald brooch. The pear-shape mother-of-pearl cabochon, within a circular-shape synthetic ruby surround, to the square-shape emerald and circular-shape synthetic ruby scroll crest. Length 3.9cms. Weight 12.3gms.
Overall condition fair to good. Some surface wear and discolouration in keeping with general wear. Mount dates from the late 19th century with significant alterations, repairs and replacement stones. Later added brooch fitting, minimal soft solder. Later added central mount, with cement to the back of the mother-of-pearl. Emeralds medium green. Fair clarity with profuse typical inclusions that somewhat affect the passage of light through the stones. Emeralds in fair condition with significant abrasion and nicks. Synthetic rubies vary slightly in hue, pinkish-red, medium colour saturation. Fairly good clarity. Stones in good condition with minor abrasion.
