A mid Victorian enamel and gem-set memorial brooch. The replacement oval blue chalcedony cabochon, within a split pearl surround, to the black enamel and scrolling foliate border. Personal engraving dated 1855. Length 5cms.
Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear. Two split pearls deficient. Base metal replacement fittings. Chalcedony is a replacement, with white metal collet. Split pearls fairly well matched. Chalcedony is a medium blue hue, well saturated, with clarity and typical inclusions. Stones in good condition with minor abrasions. Personal insciption reads: Presented by G. F. & M. G. , to F. G. G. , in memory of her dear Father, who died Feb'y5th 1855, Aged 54.
