A late Victorian silver mounted hand mirror, the oval bevelled glass plate within an ornately pierced border of cherubs and grotesques amidst scrolling foliage, and further embossed with floral scrolls to the reverse and handle. Hallmarked Samuel Walton Smith, Birmingham 1896. Height measures 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm).
The mirror displays some general wear, surface scratches, marks and some tarnishing to the metal, all in keeping with the age and use. General dints and bumps. The pierced mount is lifting a little around the edge, seen on the reverse, and there is a rim split. Likely solder repairs near to the join of the handle. Some damage to the mirror plate with a dark patch towards the top and further spotting marks. The hallmarks and maker's mark appear a little rubbed and distorted but are still legible. Further clear part hallmarks to the embossed plate.
