A late Victorian ivory handled silver trowel, having engraved and stippled foliate borders enclosing a presentation inscription. Hallmarked Walker & Hall, Sheffield 1893. Length measures 11 1/2 inches (29.2 cm). 'Presented to John Ridyard Esq. C. E. on the occasion of his laying a Memorial Stone of the Conservative Club, Walkden, June 30th 1894.'
The trowel appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some general wear, surface scratches and marks commensurate with the age and use. Also some tarnishing to the silver. Some slightly heavier wear around the edges and a couple of minor dints, however the tip is still sharp. The hallmarks are clear and legible. Also hallmarked to the ferrule, these are a little rubbed but still legible.
