A late 19th century silver and gold, tourmaline and diamond brooch. The cushion-shape pinkish-red tourmaline collet, within an old and rose-cut diamond scrolling foliate surround. Estimated total diamond weight 0.90ct. Principal diamond estimated I-J colour, P1 clarity. Length 3.5cms. Weight 9.5gms.
Overall condition fair to good. Surface scratches in keeping with general age and wear. Localised scratches and discolouration to the sides of the mount. There is a hairline crack to the back of the mount, at the bottom by the central diamond. The tourmaline is well saturated, with light surface scratches and moderate abrasion to the facet edges. Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation. Individual size and setting of smaller diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. The diamonds are fairly bright. Please see the Important Notices for Purchasers in our catalogue and online for coloured gemstones.
