A late 19th century gold and silver, diamond and ruby bird brooch. Designed as a stylised parrot with rose-cut diamond body and vari-cut ruby wings, perched on a bar with bead terminals. Length 4.2cms. Weight 5.3gms.
Overall condition good to fair. Surface scratches and small areas of discolouration in keeping with general age and wear. Some of the rubies are replacements, some possibly synthetic, too small to test in mount. The rubies have light surface scratches and nibbles to the facet edges. One ruby chipped. Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation.
