A late 19th century citrine and split pearl Cairngorm brooch. The oval-shape citrine, to the rope-twist border and scroll engraved panel surround, with split pearl and bead highlights. Maker's marks for Muirhead & Sons Sutherland. Length 5.6cms. Weight 21.5gms.
Overall condition good. Surface scratches and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear. Localised scratches and discolouration to the back of the brooch, at the bottom. Base metal replacement pin. Split pearls have minor nacre damage and blemishes. Minor areas of glue residue visible with magnification. The citrine is a golden brownish orange colour, well saturated, with light surface scratches and nibbles to the facet edges. Stamped Muirhead & Sons Sutherland Gold.
