A George III silver swing handle basket, the oval pedestal form having simple reed borders. Hallmarked Robert Hennell I & David Hennell II, London 1795. Maximum length measures 6 1/4 inches (16 cm), weight 7.5 ozt (233 grams).
The basket displays general wear, surface scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with the age and use. Some minor dints and bumps. The metal feels quite thin in places and there is a rim split near to one of the joins of the handle. On the underside of the foot, there are some long deep scratches or scores in the metal. The swing handle appears in good working order. The hallmarks are clear and legible. One side of the maker's mark is a little worn.
