A George II small silver caster, the plain baluster form with girdle detail and raised on a footed base, the removable bun lid with simple drilled piercing. Hallmarked to base only London 1742, maker's mark partly distorted. Maximum height measures 3 5/8 inches (9.2 cm), gross weight 2.1 ozt (65 grams).
The caster displays some general wear, surface scratches, marks and tarnishing in keeping with the age and use. Seam line is visible. Some small dints and bumps, also knocks to the foot rim. Small repair to rim and further repairs to lower body, below the girdle and also to rim of lid. Some splits/breaks around the pierced holes of lid. The hallmarks appear a little rubbed but still clearly legible, maker's mark partly worn. The lid appears unhallmarked.
