A 19th century silver gilt enamel, diamond and gem-set table salt. Designed as a diamond, emerald and ruby peacock, alighting on a textured half-shell, raised on green enamel and diamond bull rushes, with pearl and diamond clusters, and ruby and diamond foliate spacers, surmounting a textured oval foot. Gems deficient. Attributed to Mellerio Dit Meller. French marks. Height 13.4cms. Weight 423.5gms. With later case.
Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear. Gems deficient. Some possible replacement gems. Significant wear to the gilt finish. Diamonds fairly well matched. Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Rubies vary slightly in tone and saturation. Emeralds vary significantly. Stones vary from good to poor condition, few with noticeable chips. Pearls untested for natural origin.
