• Lot Description
  Silvered bronze, just under 1 3/8" (1.32") diameter. Circular with rounded interior. The outside of two reeded convex faces forming a ridged edge. Worn in numbers on the surface of the jerkin, these provided a measure of protection against sword cuts and, in fact, were a form of armor. See current Public Television programming for documentation of these in action. As protectors, they also held spiritual significance for the warrior. Heavy form capable of withstanding a direct sword blow. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored, on an 18" sterling silver mounted polished leather neck cord. Gift boxed with certification of authenticity. Rare form. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
