• Lot Description
  Probably 16th-17th century. Silvered bronze, over 1 7/8" height with the cross beam centered and both beams slightly flared. The beams with punched chevron bands, random or perhaps with mystical significance as some of the edges seem to be applied in a more deliberate order than others. The top with a satanic face with pointed chin and four peak tops. The full face with multiple peaks (usually horns) is well represented in art of the Renaissance. The period corresponds with the rise of witchcraft, recognized by the Christian church after about 1400 and grew through the 17th century. Worn from burial and professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored. With certificate of authenticity.
