• Lot Description
  Forged iron, 8 1/8" length. Wedge section blade with broad back fuller each side. Exposed tang with three original rivets to secure bone or antler grip scales, now perished. Peasants were not allowed to own weapons but carried daggers such as this, purported to be work knives if challenged. The thinness of the blade and lack of repeated sharpening, however, clearly identify this example as a weapon. In northern Europe (Germany) they were known as hauswehre, some of which were of shortsword proportions. With certificate of authenticity.
