Property from a Private Collection, Bridgehampton, NY
Description:
Scrimshaw Whale's Tooth, Dated 1851, unsigned, one side carved with scene of a masted ship being attacked by a humpback whale, the other side inscribed 'Whaler Ann Alexander sunk by a whale, 1851'.Measurements: Height: 4 3/8 in. x Width: 2 in. x Depth: 1 3/8 in.
Condition:
Overall good condition, minor wear and surface scratches, small crack to bottom point of tooth, age crack from top edge across inscription and a smaller crack on the other side from top edge into water of central scene, chips to top edge.
