Description:
Grandma Moses, Deep Snow, 1957, Oil on Masonite, Kallir 1290, Anna Mary Robertson ("Grandma") Moses (New York/Virginia, 1860-1961), Deep Snow, July 2, 1957, Oil on Masonite, Kallir 1290, Moses 1781, signed lower left 'Moses', titled and dated on the original artists label verso and numbered 1781 (copyright reserved Grandma Moses Properties Co., New York) and with Hammer Galleries label with inventory number 'J 23977-1', the frame and back of board also with handwritten inventory number and owners label. The literature indicates that it was reproduced by Hallmark. In a wood frame with linen mat. Frame size: 22 3/4 in. x 30 5/8 in.

Born Anna Mary Robertson in 1860, Grandma Moses is known for her naive landscape and genre paintings. Moses didn't begin painting until she was 78 when arthritis rendered her unable to continue her hobby of embroidery. She depicted happy scenes of farm life and holidays in rural New York and Virginia. Moses exhibited her work internationally into her 90s and didn't stop painting until a few months before her death at the age of 101 in 1961.Measurements: Height: of board 15 7/8 in. x Width: 24 in.
Good condition, wear to edges, some marks to back of Masonite from old nails, gray spot in central sky appears to be surface dirt and most likely removable, light stain along top central edge.Condition
