"Jerry Ford" Sends "Occupational Safety and Health Standards" Act

June 30, 1971-Dated, Historical Typed Letter Signed, "Jerry Ford" as House Minority Leader, measuring 8" x 10.5", 1 page, Washington, D.C., Choice Extremely Fine. Six months after passage of OSHA, Congressman Ford sends a copy of the historic new Act to a constituent, Hal Wilkins, Wilko Industrial System, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Clean and fresh on official Congress of the United States Office of the Minority Leader House of Representatives" stationary, and beautifully signed in rich blue ink. Letter reads, in full:
"My Grand Rapids office informs me that you would like a copy of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards. I am pleased to send you a copy of the Federal Register of May 29th which contains the rules and regulations and I hope you will find this information helpful. I am glad to be of service to you. Please let me know in the future if I can be of further assistance. - Warmest personal regards. - Sincerely, (Signed) Jerry Ford".
Six months earlier, on December 29, 1970, Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Act (OSHA), became law: "To assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women; by authorizing enforcement of the standards developed under the Act; by assisting and encouraging the States in their efforts to assure safe and healthful working conditions; by providing for research, information, education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health; and for other purposes.
Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace. OSHA's mission is to assure safe and healthful workplaces by setting and enforcing standards, and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Employers must comply with all applicable OSHA standards."
