1863 Book On Continental Currency By Samuel Breck
1863, "Historical Sketch of Continental Paper Money", by Samuel Breck, Printed by A. C. Kline, Philadelphia, Very Fine.
This 34 page, paper-covered work was reprinted during the Civil War, from the 1843 original, by Philadelphia Coin Dealer, A. C. Kline. Measuring 9" x 5.75", the text provides an historical background for the issue of Continental Currrency and a brief description of the notes. The last page, which is unnumbered, is an Appendix listing the dates of issue and the denominations of each issue. The first issue, May 10, 1775, consisted of $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, $20, and $30. The third issue, February 17th, 1776, consisted of fractional notes $1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, plus dollar values from $1 through $8. This book has the bookplate of collector Charles M. Johnson, Long Beach, CA, inside the front cover. The cover has some small tears and chips, but the interior is in excellent condition.
