1900 Milton Bradley Co. Authorized Edition Toy Money Set
c. 1900 Milton Bradley Co. Authorized Edition Toy Money for the Home-School and Kindergarten - Value on Both Sides of the (Cardboard) Coin Set Inventory Number 4009, Very Fine.
This 8" x 6" red Game Box contains about 100 Cardboard Fantasy Coins of cents (17), nickels (15), dimes (25), quarters (8), half dollars (7), dollars (8), $5 (6), $10 (5), and $20 (3). The inside top box cover explains that, "legislation relating to printed money recently aimed at some of the bills used by commercial schools, and for advertising purposes has been interpreted to also cover our Toy Money, as originally published. In order to strictly comply with the laws and protect dealers and users of our money, we have prepared new designs of the exact size of the actual coin." One side of each "coin" has a numerical denomination and the other side has the denomination spelled out. The purpose of this toy was to teach young children how to identify the different denominations, make change, handle money, etc. The usual expected scuffing of the box for its age is observed. The lid for the box has two complete sides, while the other two sides are best described as "partial." All eight cardboard compartments are present. Several of the cardboard "coins" are bent from use by a child. We are not sure what the original count was for the coins in this set as this is not listed on the inside of the top box cover. This set also contains a 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and $1 uniface cardboard "coins" for an educational toy money set produced by the J.S. Latta (Company.) Only the cardboard "coins" are included in the item count. A very interesting set from this prolific producer of board games. A rarely encountered Set. (about 100 items)
Milton Bradley Company or simply Milton Bradley (MB) was an American board game manufacturer established by Milton Bradley in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1860. In 1920, it absorbed the game production of McLoughlin Brothers, formerly the largest game manufacturer in the United States. Since 1984, it has been a division of Hasbro.
