August 1774 Printed Minutes of the General Assembly English Colony of Rhode Island "Granting a Sum of Money to our Suffering, poor, Brethren in the Town of Boston"
August 1774-Dated Revolutionary War Era, Imprint Signed, "Henry Ward" as Secretary, containing the Printed Minutes of the General Assembly of the English Colony of Rhode Island, and Providence Plantations..., Very Fine.
This 85-page Printed Document measures 11.5" x 7.25" and includes a number of official Acts and Resolutions enacted by the Legislature of the Colony of Rhode Island in August 1774. This was during a traumatic period of British Royal suppression of the Town of Boston with patriotic fever rampant there against the Crown. Now partially disbound, mixed with extra pages present, this imprint has a loose cover with some light wormholes mostly at upper left where a paper seal was once attached, now-lacking, sold "as is". The rest of the imprint pages are in superior condition with reasonably bright clean paper and crisp printing. The bottom of page 80 states an Act Voted and Resolved by members of the Lower House "Granting a Sum of Money to our Suffering, poor, Brethren in the Town of Boston". A wonderful original source document, with insight into the Rhode Island legislature in Pre-Revolutionary War Colonial times nearing April 19, 1775, and its historic "Shot heard round the world". Imprint is Signed, "Henry Ward" (1732-1797) as Secretary, in rich brown ink at its conclusion. Henry Ward, of Newport, was Rhode Island's secretary of state from 1760 to 1797. Accompanied by a modern typed page noting a sale by Riba auctions, June 17, 1989, lot 175 at $950.
