Rifle Club," Feb. 17, 1864.", New York, Published by D. Van Norstand, 1863. Fifth Edition, revised and enlarged. Original decorated red cloth, gold gilt with marbled endpapers and edges. Measures 4" x 6.25" 250 pages, plus 23 pages of advertisements at the rear. Some wear to covers, soiled and spine darkened from handling. The Owner, HORACE BUMSTEAD (1841-1919) was a Congregationalist Minister and educator. During the Civil War, Bumstead was commissioned as a Major for the 43rd Regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops, a post he occupied from April 1864 to December 1865.

During the Civil War, Bumstead was commissioned as a Major for the 43rd regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops, a post he occupied from April 1864 to December 1865. In 1875, Bumstead joined the faculty off Atlanta University as an instructor of Natural Science and went on to serve as the school's second president from 1888 to 1907.
