Civil War Confederate Documents
1863 Book Titled "Acts Of The General Assembly Of The State Of Virginia Passed at Sessions of 1863-1864", Published by William F. Ritchie, Richmond, Virginia
1863-Dated Civil War Period, Book Two Volume Set (in one) titled, "Acts Of The General Assembly Of The State Of Virginia Passed at Sessions of 1863-1864," Published by William F. Ritchie of Richmond, Virginia, Complete, Fine.
Two rare Confederate Imprints bound together, each measures 9" x 5.75 and this two-in-one Volume bears the signature of its owner, "William Dillard" on the front cover. Hard-bound in 3/4 plain heavy card covers with a muslin cloth spine. This Book appears to be complete and includes two separate sections:
1. 51 pages of the Called "Session of 1863," plus an index; and...
2. 98 pages of the "Session of 1863-4," plus an index. Virginian officials passed these Acts and Resolutions while the Civil War raged all around them.
The condition is uneven, with some heavily toned pages, others lightly toned, some foxed, and some not, some with a water stain at lower right. Typical of an authentic used Civil War Confederate State issued imprint. However, the all-important text is clear and legible, giving the reader a good taste of the legislative sentiments in Virginia in 1863 and 1864. Topics include An Act to Authorize the Arrest of Deserters by the Civil Authorities, An Act for the Relief of Indigent Soldiers and Sailors of the State of Virginia who may have been or may be disabled in the Military Service, An Act for the relief of families of Soldiers living in Counties within the Lines or under the Control of the Enemy, and so much more. A fascinating look into Confederate Virginia.
