EDWARD EVERETT (1794-1865). American politician, pastor, educator, diplomat, and orator, U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, 15th Governor of Massachusetts, Minister to Great Britain, United States Secretary of State, and Harvard University President. Great American Orator best remembered for his dedication at the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863, where he spoke for over two hours, before President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous two-minute Gettysburg Address.
February 18, 1857-Dated, Extremely rare Partially-Printed Donation Certificate, measuring 4.75" x 8.5," given to Francis J. Humphrey to Certify Membership and a $1 Donation in the "Association of Franklin Medal Scholars," Boston, Choice Crisp Near Mint. Well printed on fine wove period paper, Signed by President "Edward Everett" and Treasurer "William H Dennett" in bold deep brown. This is said to have been found in the Humphrey family bible. A vignette of Benjamin Franklin appears at left and a facsimile of a Franklin medal with loop appears at right. The first we have offered and a wonderful addition to any autograph or Ben Franklin medal collection.
Edward Everett (April 11, 1794 - January 15, 1865) was an American politician, pastor, educator, diplomat, and orator from Massachusetts. Everett, a Whig, served as U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, the 15th Governor of Massachusetts, Minister to Great Britain, and United States Secretary of State. He also taught at Harvard University and served as its president.
