John Hancock & Samuel Adams Vote Tally Report Sheet Document while as Governor & Lieutenant Governor
April 4, 1793-Dated Federal Period, Manuscript Political Document, Electing John Hancock as Governor and Samuel Adams as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, original Tally Sheet of Votes from the town of Lynn, Massachusetts, Choice Very Fine.
Historic Manuscript Election Document with Integral Transmittal Cover, measuring about 7.25" x 11.5" recording the Tally of Votes from the Town of Lynn, for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Senators for the State in 1793. A well presented and written document in brown ink on clean laid period paper. It reads, in full:
"At a meeting of the Town of Lynn, legally warned and assembled, upon the 4th Day of April 1793, for the choice of Governors & Senators for the present year. The votes stood thus. Governor - His Excellency John Hancock Esqr., Votes 35. Lieut. Governor - His Honour Samuel Adams, Esqr., Votes 35. Senators - The Hon'able Samuel Phillips Esqr., Votes 33. Azor Orne Esqr. 32. Samuel Holten Esqr. 35. Stephen Choate Esqr. 34. George Willamy Esqr. 35. Johnathan Greenlief Esqr. 16, Theophilus Bradbury Esqr. 1. Theophilus Gersons Esqr. 1, John Carnes Esqr. 1. --- (Signed) Ephraim Breed, Town Clerk. -- Ephraim Breed, Sam'l Collins, Nathan Hawks, Selectmen."
The integral transmittal cover is addressed as: "The return of Governors & Senators --- John Avery Junr. Esqr. --- Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. --- From the Town of Lynn." Docket on the central reverse panel at the red wax seal reads: "Lynn return of Gen'l Gov & Senators." Some paper loss where torn on right side edge when the original wax sealed was opened. Some minor fold splits, yet is overall in pleasing condition for display. A rare and historical Massachusetts Political document mentioning and directly regarding Votes for John Hancock and Samuel Adams.
