1783 "Comprehensive and Complete History of England: From the Earliest Period of Authentic Information, to the Middle of the Year, MDCCLXXXIII," by Edward Barnard
1783-Dated, Bound Book titled, The New Comprehensive and Complete History of England: From the Earliest Period of Authentic Information, to the Middle of the Year, MDCCLXXXIII," by Edward Barnard, Esq., Very Fine.
This highly illustrated Hardcover bound Book measures 15.25" x 9.5". This major reference designed to be as grand and glorious as its contents, contains numerous Imprints throughout (about 106 Illustrations and Maps), of Royalty and historic events. Light age to the interior pages, separated front cover with extensive wrinkling only to the few first and last pages of the book, including one Map, the preface page, and frontis imprint of the Magna Charta.
Some of the more impressive engraved Imprints include: "The Glorious Defeat of the Invincible Spanish Armada, by the English Fleet, between Dover & Calais, in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, 1588", "Part of London, as it appeared during the Dreadful Fire, in the Reign of Charles the II'd, 1666," and concluding with "The Preliminary Articles of Peace between Great Britain & France and Great Britain and Spain, Signed at Versailles, January 20, 1783." Notable Maps include: "A New Map of England Divided into its Counties, from the Latest Surveys," by T. Kitchin, Geographer, and "A New and Correct Map of Great Britain, from the Most Accurate Surveys," by Thomas Bowen, on page 553. The Imprints and Maps included within this volume if removed, themselves alone would fetch a few thousands of dollars if sold separately in our experience. A nice find to have all together in their original state being still bound together in this impressive 1783 account of British History.
