March 23, 1782-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Political and Voting Related, Manuscript Document Signed, three "Selectmen of Dartmo(uth)," Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Fine.
The State of Massachusetts Manuscript voting responsibility Document titled, "Agreeable to the Constitution of the Commonwealth of ye Massachusetts," Signed, "Edward Pope," "Stephen Peckham," and "Jabez Barker" as the Selectmen of the Town of Dartmouth, 1 page, 7.5" x 12.25", at Dartmouth, Massachusetts. This Document is handwritten in deep brown ink on laid period paper, a 1.5" long tear along the center-right centerfold affecting several words on one side. It calls on all male inhabitants of Dartmouth over the age of twenty, and having the annual income of over three pounds, to meet at the Town-House to choose a Governor and a Lt. Governor and three Senators. On the opposite side of this Document is headed, "Memorandum of an agreement Made", dated June 14, 1768, by and between Jabez Barker and his son, Jabez Barker Jr., for the sale of their farm from father to his son, both having signed with red wax seals next to their signatures and the signing officially witnessed by two others. Both sides of this scarce paper being utilized for dual purposes of the sale of a farm and notification of one's responsibility to show up and vote!
